microscopy introduction is available as a half or full day course. you will learn:     

 

 - the component parts of the microscope    

 - the principles of critical and kohler illumination     

 - the use of the condenser     

 - the use of the vernier scale     

 - the meaning and application of the terms, numerical aperture, tube

   length     

 - and working distance     

 - the application of polarisation lighting     

 - the difference between binocular and stereoscope     

 - the setting up, routine maintenance and service of the microscope     

 - simple specimen measurement

 - the application of dark ground

 - the use of phase contrast

 

this course is suitable for those new to microscopy. in order to obtain the best results from a microscope it is necessary to understand the underlying principles and the course has plenty of hands on practical experience.

 

participants are requested to fill out a simple questionnaire prior to the course to assess existing microscopy knowledge in order to ensure the programme is as relevant as possible.
